In a subpoena to five members of the Houston Area Pastors Council, the city is requesting a long list of documents and communications. Among them are “all speeches, presentations, or sermons” related to the Equal Rights Ordinance and “all communications with members of your congregation” regarding it and the failed petition against it.
It is the city’s latest move as it defends itself against a lawsuit filed in August requesting the ordinance be suspended.
Pastor Hernan Castano received a subpoena and believes his sermons are protected by the First Amendment.
“For a city government to step into churches and ask pastors to turn in sermons, it’s gone too far. This is not what America, the nation is about,” he told Eyewitness News.

Once again, what is going on here has been sensationalized by the media. I’m no fan of what the Houston ordinance, but in a legal battle, anything related to the case can be subpoenaed by either party.

that was my reaction at first too, and i haven’t wasted much time thinking about it since then.
a classic legal ploy is to submit interrogatory requests for everything they can think of. it’s commonly used as a delay tactic. i’d be shocked if most of the sermons i’ve heard are recorded anywhere. lately they sound more like a personal travelogue, health care report, public service announcement, etc. when was the last time any of us heard any of these guys actually preach the 10 Commandments?
You should have been at the Big Creek Church in Missouri on October 5. The preacher there preached on the Ten Commandments.
The liberal mentally disordered left want freedom of speech and thought, but, only for themselves, so they seek to oppress, and shut up Pastors thinking the real conservative men that have a pair will cave in, ha. Did Peter disobeyed God by not preaching and teaching the gospel??? No, we would rather serve God instead of men.
The misguided foolish mayor of Houston needs to be warned who she is fighting against??? Remember Jezebel? May she read the story along with the Pharaoh and his disobedience against the God revealed in the Holy Bible. They were thrown onto the ash heap of Perdition, and the rate the mayor of Houston is going, the Lake of Fire in Revelation 22 will be her new home with eternal suffering.
