Missionaries Nik and Ruth Ripken have interviewed more than 600 persecuted Christians in over 72 countries, and now the film “The Insanity of God” will convey the amazing story on the silver screen across the country.
For just one day, Aug. 30, LifeWay Films, International Mission Board with Fathom Events will present the film, based on the Ripkens’ 2013 best-selling book by the same name, in 530 movie theaters nationwide.
“They discover the church not only survives under persecution, but it thrives,” says Trey Reynolds, manager of LifeWay Films, in a statement.
It was after the untimely death of their 16-year-old son that the missionary couple began their journey interviewing persecuted Christians after they spent time in the Horn of Africa. Over the course of 18 years they interviewed hundreds of Christians living in the toughest parts of the world – whether that be believers in Russia, the Middle East, Africa or elsewhere.
An astonishing 74 percent of the world’s population have blasphemy laws or other harsh statutes against religious freedom, according to U.S. Ambassdor-at-Large for Religious Freedom David Saperstein.
Fathom Events CEO John Rubey praised the upcoming film. “We are honored to partner with LifeWay Films to bring this amazing story to movie theaters across the country.”

I recommend that members of Mainline congregations ask their pastor if he/she has even heard of this film or the book that inspired it. I would challenge pastors to take their youth group to see this film and their adult study group to read the book.
