MOBILE, Ala. – Westminster Presbyterian Church in Mobile is exploring the policy for churches leaving the PCUSA denomination, two months after its General Assembly voted to affirm gay marriage.
Members of the church’s session, its governing body, were to meet with presbytery officials Tuesday night to discuss the denomination’s dismissal policy, according a letter from Pastor David Mauldin in the church newsletter, The Westminster VOICE.
“The majority of people at Westminster feel strongly about a number of issues coming out of the General Assembly,” Mauldin said Tuesday. “We are just at the beginning of the process, however.”
He added that Westminster is “blessed to be in a presbytery that works with churches in this sort of situation in a way that is gracious and pastoral rather than adversarial.”
