Prayers for the 220th General Assembly

On my way out of the sanctuary following worship, the preacher asked how he could pray for the upcoming Presbyterian Church (USA)’s 220th General Assembly. I rattled off a litany, including prayers that God would be glorified, the denomination would return to Biblical faithfulness on ordination and uphold the historic and confessional definition of marriage, that commissioners might be protected and the Holy Spirit might descend in such power that the heart of the denomination would be turned back to Christ as the Way and the Truth and the Life. He responded that those are the prayers he has prayed for assemblies past. Then he told me that he is under conviction this year to pray specifically for two things:
1. That the plans of the Enemy would be disrupted; and
2. That the PCUSA assembly would not provide opportunity for the bride of Christ to be publically mocked.
Certainly, as the Scriptures tell us, God cannot be mocked, but His beloved can be. I invite you to pray these two prayers in concert with others.
