Unapproved overture about using confessions mistakenly sent to General Assembly Office
The Layman Online, April 29, 2004
The Presbytery of the Peaks mistakenly sent an overture, once numbered 04-61, to the Office of the General Assembly, Gradye Parsons, director of the office’s strategic operations, told The Layman Online today.
A story about the overture, supposedly calling for The Book of Confessions to be used in considering proposals to the General Assembly, was posted on The Layman Online Wednesday. That story has been removed.
“The stated clerk of Peaks Presbytery informed us about a month ago that the 04-61 you talk about in your article did not pass the presbytery and was mistakenly mailed in to us,” Parsons said. “We have withdrawn it from the list. There is a different overture now with the number of 04-61.”
The Office of the General Assembly sent a copy of the first 04-61 to The Layman Online and other Presbyterian media, but did not notify them that the overture had been withdrawn because it was not approved.
