Effort will ‘legally smuggle’
Bibles into public schools
The Layman, August 24, 2009
As the new school year begins, so is an effort to get the Word of God into the hands and hearts of youth nationwide.
From Aug. 24 to Aug. 28, American Family Radio and Revival Fires International will celebrate Truth for Youth week. Teenagers can participate by signing up to receive a free copy of Revival Fires’ “Truth for Youth” Bible and promising to share the Gospel with a friend.
The book consists of the entire New Testament in the God’s Word translation, along with 100 pages of full color comics that address common youth issues including sexual purity, homosexuality, abortion, pornography, drugs, school violence and secular rock music.
The back cover lists Christian students’ legal rights on public school campuses, which includes distributing religious materials during non-instructional time.
To receive a free copy, teens (ages 12 to 18) must promise to give the Bibles to their unsaved friends at school. Only one free Bible is available per teenager in each home, but extra copies can be purchased at a discounted price.
According to Revival Fires International President Tim Todd’s online newsletter, more than 1.25 million “Truth for Youth” Bibles have been distributed in U.S. public schools. In promoting Truth for Youth Week, he likens it to “legally smuggling” Bibles into the public schools.
“As a result of these successful soul winning efforts, thousands of young people are coming to Christ,” Todd said. “I believe our public schools are the biggest mission field in America. Certainly, much more is needed than just handling out Bibles, but this is a good place to start.”
Teens can request their free copy of Truth for Youth on the Web or by calling 1-800-733-4737 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Central Standard Time).
