PCUSA clergy will post declaration to doors of PCUSA headquarters
The Layman Online, October 23, 2002
A declaration calling the Presbyterian Church (USA) to confession and repentance will be posted on the doors of the Presbyterian Church (USA) Center in Louisville, Kentucky, at 7:00 a.m. on October 28, 2002.
The document, composed by five Presbyterian clergy, was released on October 2, 2002, and is being endorsed by other clergy and officers within the church. Authors of the declaration are from Pittsburgh, Pa., Orlando, Fla. and Rockford, Ill.
The declaration rebukes the denomination for its failure to hold fast to the essential tenets of the reformed faith and for its failure to enforce its confessional statements and constitution.
The declaration calls for the Rev. Clifton Kirkpatrick, the Stated Clerk of the Presbyterian Church (USA), to take immediate action to insure that the constitution is obeyed through out the church. Furthermore the document calls churches to redirect their financial gifts to the denomination to ministries and mission work which is faithful to Jesus Christ and Holy Scripture.
The declaration has been written and is being posted at the Presbyterian Center (USA) in the spirit of Martin Luther’s nailing of his 95 Theses to the doors of the Wittenberg Church on October 31, 1517. Luther’s actions and advocacy lead to the Reformation which gave birth to the Protestant Christian Church.
After the document is nailed to the doors of the Presbyterian Center, there will be a time of prayer for the Presbyterian Church (USA).
