Christian citizens
The Presbyterian Layman September/October 2000 Volume 33, Number 5, September 29, 2000
The third objective of the Presbyterian Lay Committee, as listed on p. 5 of every issue of The Presbyterian Layman, is “To encourage individual Presbyterians to take their place in society and, as led by the Holy Spirit, become involved in social, economic and political affairs as Christian citizens.”
That objective is particularly significant as the fall elections approach. Separately, faith and politics are volatile issues. Conjoined, as they so often have been in this presidential race, they tend to produce more heat than light.
“You are the light of the world,” Jesus told his disciples (Matt. 5:14). That’s a verse for Christian citizens to keep in mind as the campaigns heat up.
