Today, as Christians worldwide celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, members of the First Presbyterian Church of DeBary will celebrate Easter with the resurrection of their sanctuary from the ashes of a fire in August 2009.”Easter is a time for renewal, the beginning of spring; the flowers grow again; the trees grow back their leaves. It’s the same with the church building,” said Tori Fox, a church member for 27 years.
With that sense of renewal comes the sense that, for a congregation that has been around since the 1950s, everything is new again. There was the first Sunday service, the first wedding, the first funeral, the first Christmas and now the first Easter.
“Every time is the first, so it’s very exciting,” said Janet Clark, a member for 38 years.
