Oldenburg says ordination issue has not been resolved
The Presbyterian Layman, October 29, 1998
In an interview with the Presbyterian News Service, General Assembly Moderator Douglas Oldenburg says the issue of ordaining practicing homosexuals in the Presbyterian Churh (USA) is still not resolved and that “We have to keep on talking about it.”
“I wish there were a compromise position,” Oldenburg told the Rev. William P. Lancaster Jr. during a recent interview in Louisville. “But what some of us think would be a compromise position is not acceptable [to others].”
The report on the interview also quotes Oldenburg as saying that the interpretation of Scripture is one of the fundamental issues of the church.
