In the 18th century, we Presbyterians were ahead of the game and now while the 21st century is just learning how to walk, we find the Presbyterian Church (USA) casting a vision for what will perhaps happen in the United States: the maintenance of benefits for the Baby Boom generation and older at the expense of everyone younger. To those who have paid attention to how generational issues impact government policy and economics this isn’t a new concept, but now the PC(USA) Board of Pensions is on the cusp of being ahead of the game by formally telling the younger generation of members: cough up your lung or cough up a bunch of money (in fairness, you wouldn’t cough up a lung, it would be your spouse or child(ren)).
