The Office of Women’s Advocacy celebrated ‘Women’s History Month” by
placing several articles on their web site. The articles are focused on
various aspects of feminism such as its history and women in leadership.
Voices of Orthodox Women is disturbed by much of the content in the articles
and has responded with two countering articles. Within the first VOW
article, ‘Some Questions and Comments for the Office of Women’s Advocacy on
their article, Reflect on our foremothers’ feminism,”’ we have asked six
questions of the OWA. We have also asked for any comments they might wish to
make on our second article, ‘The Sexual Revolution or Raunch Culture: Isn’t
There a Better Choice?”
On March 26, e-mail was sent to Ms Molly Casteel, Women’s Advocacy Associate
that included the first article and a request for answers to our questions.
After a second e-mail request on the 2nd of April, Casteel graciously agreed
to answer our questions. However, since that time she has offered various
reasons why she has been unable to do so. These reasons include the
computers being down at the center, and jury duty.
On April 26, after we sent yet another e-mail, Casteel answered by saying
that she would get to her response ‘by the end of the day” or ‘Monday
afternoon at the latest.” Finally, on Tuesday, May 2nd, Casteel wrote to
say she had lost the first article, and added that she was ‘reminded on
Monday [May 1st] that she is required to consult with other staff on these
kinds of requests ”
Voices of Orthodox Women believes that it has given OWA more than enough
opportunity to respond to its questions, and will now proceed to post the
two articles. If and when the Office of Women’s Advocacy answers our
questions, we will post their response.
You may read both of the articles referred to above by clicking here [1] .
They are posted sequentially on the same webpage.
