VOW
For several years, VOW has publicly stated its concern about Horizons’ decision to ask Kikanza Nuri Robbins to author its 2008-2009 Bible Study. VOW believes that Ms. Nuri Robbins has staked out radical biblical and theological positions that make it unlikely for her to be able to represent the historic faith of the Presbyterian Church.
For this reason, I am encouraged to be able to report that PW has quietly announced on its web page that the Rev. Dale Lindsay Morgan will author the 2008-2009 study instead of Ms. Nuri Robbins.
I am not privy to PW’s decision making process, or to the logic that lies behind this particular decision. But perhaps it is merely what it appears to be a genuine effort by PW to strengthen the fragile thread of trust between its national leadership and many of the women who make up its constituency.
As always, it is VOW’s hope that all Presbyterian-produced curriculum, and especially that produced by PW, will uphold our church’s biblical and constitutional standards. And, in the same way that PW so faithfully supported women in mission and ministry, it now has the opportunity to further strengthen our connectional relationships by providing a Bible study that can nurture the faith of all Presbyterian Women.
VOW will review the 2008-2009 study as soon as it is available, and offer its critique following its April board meeting. However, because of our previous positive experience with Dale Lindsay Morgan’s work, we fully expect to be able to endorse her study of Luke in the same way that we endorsed her 2004-2005 Horizons study entitled, “What She SaidQuotable Women in Scripture”
