The Presbyterian Coalition, an independent evangelical group, will hold Gathering VIII, its eighth fall conference, on Oct. 6-8 in Portland, Ore.
Erwin McManusThe principal speaker will be Erwin McManus, pastor of Mosaic in Los Angeles and author of An Unstoppable Force. The Coalition describes McManus as a “national and international strategist and speaker on culture, change, creativity and leadership.”
The Coalition has also announced that the Rev. Dr. Ron Kincaid, pastor of Sunset Presbyterian Church in Portland, and the Rev. Jin S. Kim, moderator of the Coalition of Korean American Ministries and president-elect of Presbyterians for Renewal, will be among the speakers.
The conference will include reports from:
- Reform from Within team
- New Wineskins Task Force
- Discipline/Compliance Task Force

Coalition leaders say other speakers and programs will be announced later.
McManus, a Southern Baptist, has also served as the primary catalyst for the “Leading the Innovating Church” national conferences that have cumulatively trained more than 3,000 pastors. He has been been a guest professor and lecturer at numerous seminaries.
He is described as both the pastor and the “cultural architect” of Mosaic, an innovative congregation that is ethnically diverse. McManus describes his mission in an autobiographical essay on the Mosaic Web site.
The Mosaic Web site says the congregation is “known around the world for its spiritual creativity and cosmopolitan diversity … The name ‘Mosaic’ comes both from the diversity of its members, and from the symbolism of a broken and fragmented humanity that can become a work of beauty under the artful hand of God.”
Mosaic meets on Sunday mornings in a Los Angeles High School and in the Los Angeles Entertainment Center on Sunday afternoons.
