Presbyterian Elders in Prayer names new co-executive director

Presbyterian Elders in Prayer has announced the appointment of a new co-executive director.
The organization’s board of directors has named the Rev. Melany Hamilton to the new position. She presently serves as interim senior pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Loves Park, Ill.
In a statement, the board of directors said Hamilton will be the organization’s chief administrative officer and serve as the contact for denominational, para-denominational and ecumenical networking, as well as representing Presbyterian Elders in Prayer at renewal gatherings.
The board of directors stated that the Rev. Nancy Abiera will continue as co-executive director responsible for hosting the organization’s ministries and coordinating volunteers. (815-282-9040).
The Rev. Dr. Merrilyn Slack-Schinkel, who recently retired as executive director, will continue with the ministry in an advisory role. The statement said she remain available for counsel, consultation and conference leadership. (913-239-0328 or kmerrilyn@yahoo.com).
Presbyterian Elders in Prayer
Presbyterian Elders in Prayer describes itself this way: “In 1982, a group of elders from Colonial Presbyterian Church and Second Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Mo., got together to pray for the denomination. God inspired them to invite other elders to join them in this prayer for the healing, renewal and growth of our church (James 5:13-15). Presbyterian Elders in Prayer was organized as a non-profit, religious organization with by-laws and a board of directors. Its primary purpose is to inspire, encourage and enable more prayer, both personal and group, for the renewal and growth of our church.”
Hamilton is a graduate of Longwood University and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, and has served churches in Baltimore and Blackhawk presbyteries. While in seminary, she met her husband John, senior pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Rochelle, Ill. They have three children: Steve, Bethany and Elissa.
