BOP approves extension of benefits to same-sex domestic partners of plan members
To: Board of Pensions,
I am writing to express in the strongest of terms my disagreement and outrage at the Board’s decision to extend benefits to same-sex partners. This decision is cowardly and reprehensible, revealing an utter contempt for the Scriptures and our theological standards and a clear disdain for and disinterest in the beliefs and feelings of the Evangelical side of the church. This decision now means that participation in the BOP is nothing less than explicit acceptance and support of what the Scriptures call sin. This I cannot and will not do.
Well over a year ago I wrote the board explaining in the clearest of terms that should they take such a course I would be forced to consider other options for medical and pension. The board’s callous snub and clear rejection of the faith and values held dear by many of its faithful members makes clear that the BOP cannot be trusted to adhere to the standards of Scripture and Reformed theology and thus care for our medical and retirement needs. Consequently, I am informing you that it is now impossible for me to continue my relationship with the Board of Pensions. I am notifying you that our session is beginning the process of full separation from the Board of Pensions and we will notify you when this is complete and all payments to the BOC have been terminated.
The Board has violated the trust and principles of those you were created to serve and should be deeply ashamed.
