Taylor is confirmed as
Foundation president, CEO

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The 219th General Assembly confirmed the election of Rev. Thomas R. Taylor as the president and chief executive officer of the Presbyterian Foundation.
Elinor Hite, chair of the search committee for the Foundation’s board of trustees, called the search process “long, complicated and humbling process.”
“We were looking for someone with pastor’s heart, financial expertise, inclusiveness, intelligence … appreciation of the local church,” she said.
She said the committee received more than 200 resumes, went over 78 resumes in depth, then 34 more in-depth. Then 15 met with the committee, and the number was narrowed to seven. Then the committee “hit a brick wall and we began again,” she said.
She said last November, the Foundation board unanimously called and elected Taylor to a four-year term. “Tom brings great gifts,” she said.
Taylor told commissioners he was “delighted to be a part of this ministry, and delighted to be a part of the ministry in the PCUSA over the years, as elder, pastor and part of the GAMC.”
He was previously deputy executive director for mission for the PCUSA’s General Assembly Mission Council, where he oversaw the six ministry areas that administer the mission work of the denomination.
He was ordained in 1995 and is a member of the Presbytery of San Gabriel. He received his undergraduate degree with honors in history and his juris doctorate in law from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; his masters of divinity from Yale University-Divinity School and his Ph.D. from Fuller Theological Seminary in Intercultural Studies, where he continues to teach social justice as adjunct faculty.
