Homo Sapiens not an endangered species
By Jack Volkers, The Layman Online, June 13, 2001
As it considered an overture addressing the Mass Extinction of Species, the Assembly Committee on Global Issues acted to prevent the extinction of an indeterminate number of species and, in the process, deliberately including measures to promote the aborting of unborn children around the world.
The overture addressed a number of environmental and political issues using the familiar arguments about the evils associated with oil-drilling, energy consumption, etc. With minor amendments and discussion on other points, the debate quickly centered on an article that condemned President George W. Bush’s administrative policy not to support international family planning agencies that counsel toward abortion. A slight majority of the committee was intent on keeping the article condemning the president and supporting abortion counseling around the world.
A number of amendments were proposed that would cast the issue in positive terms (encourage the president to support international family planning agencies, for example) or avoid the word “abortion,” but the committee rejected them in order.
The committee’s work will be presented to the whole assembly.
