Delegated assembly elects new slate of board members
The Layman Online, October 31, 2007
FAIR OAKS, Calif. – With little discussion, the delegated assembly of the New Wineskins Association of Churches on Tuesday morning unanimously voted in a new slate of board members.
The only question that was asked before the vote was how the board members are selected. The Rev. Carmen Fowler, vice moderator of the Association, said that names are submitted from congregations and individuals, as well as from within the board, that then are submitted to the delegates for a vote.
“We don’t vet candidates,” she said. “We talk to them.”
On a voice vote immediately afterward, delegates unanimously elected as new board members the following:
- Trish Dietz, an elder from Bay Village, Ohio.
- Carmen Fowler, associate pastor at Providence Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
- Kay George, associate pastor of Oreland Presbyterian Church in Oreland, Pa.
- Dennis Gorman, an elder from Quincy, Ill.
- Laurie Johnston, pastor of Hillsdale Presbyterian Church in Hillsdale, Kan.
- Dean Weaver, senior pastor of Memorial Park Presbyterian Church in Allison Park, Pa.
- Russell Wilkins, pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Texarkana, Texas.
The returning board members of the New Wineskins Association of Churches are:
- Noel Anderson, executive pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Bakersfield, Calif.
- Gerrit Dawson, senior pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge, La.
- Kerry Fraas, an elder at Mt. Vernon Community Presbyterian Church in McKeesport, Pa.
- Peggy Hedden, a longtime elder in the PCUSA from Columbus, Ohio.
- David Henderson, pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church in West Lafayette, Ind.
- Jerry Van Auken, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Kokomo, Ind.
