Barbara Dua resigns
The Layman Online, February 16, 2000
The resignation of Barbara Dua, associate director of the Women’s Ministries Program Area for the Presbyterian Church (USA), was announced today by Curtis A. Kearns, Jr., director of the denomination’s National Ministries Division.
Barbara Dua“Associate Director Barbara Dua has decided to accept a position with an ecumenical agency in New Mexico, and she speaks very excitedly about the opportunity. Barbara has given unselfishly of her talents and resources, and her contributions to the Division and the Council will certainly be missed. We wish her Godspeed, and say a heartfelt ‘thanks’ for the ministry she has provided,” Kearns said.
The announcement of Dua’s resignation came just two days after Voices of Orthodox Women posted an exchange of correspondence between Dua and a Presbyterian minister who had requested permission to observe a training event being sponsored by the National Network of Presbyterian College Women.
The controversial Network, administered by Dua’s program area, was sharply criticized for its publication Young Women Speak, which commends lesbian and pre-marital sex and echoes goddess-worship themes from the ReImagining God movement.
No announcement has yet been made concerning Dua’s successor.
