YADs will be YAADs at 219th General Assembly
The Layman, June 27, 2008
SAN JOSE, Calif. — There will no YADs at the next General Assembly. Instead, the youth demographic will be represented by YAADs.
Commissioners to the 218th General Assembly voted Thursday to call the youth delegates Young Adult Advisory Delegates, instead of Youth Advisory Delegates.
Youth, according to the rationale, are considered ages 12-18. The delegates at Assembly are ages 17-23.
In other business concerning the youth of the church, the assembly:
- Voted to send the DVD “Soul Searching” to all presbytery resource centers, to help with youth outreach and to create a study guide for the DVD.
- Created a task force, made up mostly of youth and young adults ages 15-21, to continue the work of the Assembly’s Youth Committee.
- Voted to ask commissioners to recommend youth mentoring programs to their congregations and presbyteries, and to consider mentoring a young person themselves.
