Salsa singers turn evangelists during concert in Puerto Rico

Two popular salsa music performers led more than 5,000 people to become Christians during a concert in Puerto Rico. Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz performed in their first appearance together since playing at Madison Square Garden in New York in 1991.
The performers, both of whom had become Christians, squelched rumors that they disliked each other. “We are joined by a profound friendship and this meeting is testimony that we are united,” Cruz told the crowd.
As the concert began, Cruz asked the audience to join him in reciting the Lord’s Prayer. Even though, as a survey had revealed, only 10 percent of those attending were Christians, they followed along in prayer. Midway through the concert, Cruz stopped the music and began to preach. He explained Christ’s message of salvation and forgiveness of sins, and afterward, approximately 5,000 people stood to indicate that they accepted Christ as their Savior.
Other Christian singers also are evangelizing the Spanish-speaking world. They include Juan Luis Guerra of the Dominican Republic, and Yuri, a Mexican singer and television actress who was formerly known as the Madonna of Mexico, but became a Christian and gives a testimony of how God changed her life.
