The Grace Presbytery, which consists of 150 area Presbyterian Churches, has taken over the property of the First Presbyterian Church in Marlin.
More than 120 people were on hand to take final communion and hear the words, “this church is closed” last week.
A reception was held in fellowship hall after the service.
Anna Steele, 88, had been a member of the church for 66 years and sang in the choir much of that time.
” I don’t know what I am going to do and where I am going to go,” she said.
“I may shop around.”
The Rev. Charles Packard, pastor of Central Presbyterian Church in Woodway was appointed by the presbytery to head a four-member commission to determine what will happen to the church, which fills an entire city block and includes a 3,000-square-foot manse.
